While other cities have adapted to change, Ottawa has stuck to old plans that have made a bad financial situation worse.

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx expect to start working on a development and master construction agreement with a preferred team next summer.

Construction will start later this year, with the facility scheduled to come online in late 2025. Once complete, it will store 80 megawatts of power.

OPG ultimately hopes to build a fleet of four SMRs at Darlington, with the goal of delivering 1,200 megawatts of nuclear-generated electricity.
