Record job vacancies, which push up building costs and impede productivity, come at a time when the residential construction industry is under pressure to meet the demands of a growing population.

The 66-year-old progressive will begin her term on July 12 following two weeks of discussions with top city officials.

The company intends to open a new 103,500 square-foot manufacturing facility in Brantford that will help meet the growing demand for its products.

Construction is expected to begin in July at 5207 Dundas St. W. and at two other shovel-ready sites, 50 Wilson Heights Blvd. and 140 Merton St., before the end of this year.

The money will be rolled out over four years and will help providers renovate, retrofit and build new not-for-profit and public child-care facilities.
