Funding of $1.5 million from the province will support the construction of a $15-million, state-of-the-art tortilla production line at Bimbo Canada’s Trillium bakery in Hamilton.

The Vancouver-based company said in a press release that the indefinite curtailment will affect around 126 employees.

The funding means that operator Genesee & Wyoming Canada will continue to provide commercial freight service along the Northern Ontario line.

The provincial government plans to table its budget by March 31, and is now starting the process of public consultations.

The federal government has committed to spend up to $22.7 million on rebuilding and rehabilitating three wharves located at the Welland Canal in Port Colborne.
