Canadian Farm Builders celebrate 40 years, today
Members of the Canadian Farm Builders Association are meeting in Stratford today, February 28, to celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary, and to hold the CFBA’s annual conference.
The Canadian Farm Builders Association was formed by a group of farm building contractors who initially met on Feb. 5, 1980. This group saw a need to establish uniformity and standards in the farm building industry.
The CFBA says, "Members have access to ongoing educational opportunities and advisories as well as communications regarding regulations and best practices. Members benefit from the CFBA's affiliation with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs" and other organizations.
The Association is comprised of numerous stakeholders within the agricultural and construction sectors. CFBA members include farm builders, engineers, (OMAFRA) employees, building inspectors, and suppliers of farm building-related products and services.
According to a statement from the CFBA, “The complexity of the farm building has increased exponentially over the last number of years. Today's farm buildings incorporate components that produce healthy livestock, save energy, and protect the environment. The quality of the new farm building is the result of current knowledge of building codes, construction practices, and environmental requirements.”
The primary focus of the conference is “to educate our members and other stakeholders regarding issues of importance to the farm-building industry. This opportunity and invitation is geared to stakeholders within the agricultural and construction sectors including farm builders, engineers, government representatives, building inspectors, and suppliers of farm-building related products and services.”
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the annual CFBA Builder Awards, in nine categories, including awards for construction of dairy, swine, poultry, horse farm and other livestock-related buildings, as well as commercial/institutional buildings and hobby or recreational buildings.
