Three shortlisted for CHEO 1Door4Care project
Three teams have been shortlisted to design, build and finance a massive project for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa.
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and CHEO made the announcement on August 26.
The shortlisted teams and their prime team members are:
- EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare, which also includes designers Montgomery Sisam Architects Inc., Vertechs Design Inc., WalterFedy, Mulvey & Banani International Inc., H. H. Angus and Associates Limited, and Entuitive Corporation,
- PCL Partnerships, which also includes Parkin Architects Limited, WSP Canada Inc., Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd., Morrison Hershfield Ltd., CSW Landscape Architects Ltd., and Victor Ford & Associates Inc., and
- Pomerleau Inc., which includes design support from Jodoin Lamarre Pratte Architects + Neuf Architects, Quinn Design Associates, Quasar Consulting Group Inc. + Pratu, Stephenson Engineering Limited, GHD Limited, Smith and Anderson, and Kiwi Newton Group (Kiwi Newton).
The teams were shortlisted based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in March 2022. Selection criteria included design and construction capability, experience, qualified personnel and financial capacity to undertake a project of this size and scope.
IO and CHEO will issue a request for proposals to the teams this fall. Once submissions are received, IO and CHEO will evaluate the proposals, select a preferred team and then negotiate a final contract. A fairness monitor will oversee the entire procurement process.
The 1Door4Care: CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre will merge seven care locations, currently leased and spread across Ottawa, into a single, state-of-the-art, purpose-built site on CHEO’s main campus on Smyth Road.
The new site will include multi-use clinic space, a physiotherapy rehab gym, expanded mental health clinics, indoor and outdoor space where teachers and therapists combine education and therapy, secure space for children who have been abused, modern treatment rooms for kids with behavioural needs, advanced technology to enable virtual care, a physical link to the main building on campus, family support spaces, a new parking structure, and more.
The project aims to be certified LEED Silver.
