Cambridge man fined for altering engineering documents
A Cambridge man has been fined $3,500 by the Ontario Court of Justice for altering engineering drawings bearing a professional engineer's seal and submitting those drawings to a municipality for approval, without the knowledge or consent of the professional engineer.
Kevin Ellerby pled guilty to charges of breaching a section of the Professional Engineers Act in connection with this conduct.
Ellerby applied for a permit with the City of Cambridge to build a structure on his own property. As part of his application, he submitted engineering drawings that had been prepared and sealed by a professional engineer for an unrelated project at a different location.
Before submitting those drawings to the city, however, Ellerby deleted the address of the original project and replaced it with his own—without the professional engineer's knowledge or consent.
The Professional Engineers of Ontario was represented in court by lawyers from the Toronto firm of Polley Faith LLP.
