Metrolinx and IO finalize project agreement for Union Station expansion
Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario have finalized a project alliance agreement for work on the Union Station Enhancement Project.
The ONTrack Alliance consortium, which comprises Kiewit – Alberici Union General Partnership, WSP Canada Inc. and Mass. Electric Construction Canada Co., will complete the work at a target cost of $562 million.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2022 and to be completed in fall 2025.
The project scope of work sees expansion to the station to accommodate increased capacity as part of the planned expansion of GO Transit rail service.
Specifically, it calls for construction of new platforms, with canopies, stairs and elevators; construction of two new tracks designed to allow for future passenger train speed up to 45 miles per hour; construction of a new concourse area below the new platforms that will connect the York, Bay and Via Concourse, Union Square and the Scotiabank Galleria and both York and Bay Streets; and construction of a storm water management system and other building systems
Metrolinx aims to transform the GO Transit rail network into a system that will deliver two-way, all-day service every 15 minutes over core segments of the GO Rail network.
In November, Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx entered into an alliance development agreement with ONTrack Alliance to develop the design, schedule and cost of the Union Station Enhancement Project.
