EllisDon team to build new West Lincoln hospital
Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences have tapped a consortium led by EllisDon to design, build and finance the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Redevelopment project.
The announcement was made on March 7. The EllisDon team, dubbed, EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare, also includes Parkin Architects.
The project involves the construction of a new, larger hospital on a site behind the existing facility. The new building will include acute inpatient beds, a 24-hour emergency department, Maternal and newborn services, day surgical services including endoscopy and minor procedures, and increased outpatient (ambulatory) care space to expand availability of consultation services closer to home.
Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences will now work to finalize contract details with the EllisDon consortium. The project is expected to reach financial close in the coming weeks. The contract cost will be announced publicly following financial close.
“EllisDon is a market leader in the delivery of important health-care infrastructure projects across Ontario, with a long history of innovation and collaboration working with public partners,” said Kelly Campbell, VP, Corporate Services and Capital Development, Hamilton Health Sciences. “We are excited for their vision to bring this project to life. As we move forward with our preferred design-build partner, we acknowledge and are grateful for the time and energy that all teams put into their proposals to build the future WLMH.”
Construction is expected to begin this summer, with an anticipated completion date of the first half of 2025.
