WRH hires Stantec as hospital PDC consultant
Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has announced that it has chosen Stantec Architecture to serve as the planning, design and conformance (PDC) consultant for the New Windsor/Essex Acute Care Hospital Project.
The company will support the project through the development of indicative design documents and provide support throughout the tendering and construction stages.
It will also work with several user groups – including consisting hospital leadership, staff and professional staff, and patient and community representatives – to develop design plans and performance requirements for the new hospital and ensure they are adhered to through the construction phase.
WRH selected Stantec through a request for proposals process that was managed by Infrastructure Ontario (IO). It selected the company based on a combination of the team’s expertise, experience with similar-sized hospital projects, and its price submission.
“This is a significant project milestone,” said WRH president and CEO David Musyj. “We look forward to working with Stantec to continue to advance the project and ensure we are in good shape to start construction on or before the target date.”
Some of Stantec’s recent projects include the new Cortellucci Vaughn Hospital and the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
With the award of this contract, the Stantec team can start work on key planning work including developing early design plans, developing request for qualifications documents, building the pre-qualification evaluation process, and consulting with WRH staff and the community.
“With the onboarding of the new PDC Team, it is full steam ahead with designing the new state-of-the-art hospital facilities,” said project director Paul Landry. “Preliminary block schematic design plans and images will be developed in the next few months and presented internally and externally to the community through a new series of town hall meetings later this fall.”
IO’s most recent market update document estimates the value of the New Windsor/Essex Acute Care Hospital project to be in excess of $2 billion.
Tendering is anticipated to begin in 2025, with construction scheduled for 2027.
