Federal government invests $3.5 million in Stoney Creek modular builder
The federal government has announced $3.5 million in support for a Stoney Creek manufacturer of modular buildings.
Fero International Inc. builds rapidly deployable modular solutions for the healthcare, housing, long-term care and educational sectors, among others.
With funding from the Government of Canada, Fero will increase its in-house manufacturing capabilities to grow production of its modular infrastructure for the healthcare and life-sciences sector. The modular buildings can be used as labs, outpatient clinics, operating rooms, long-term care centres, and healthcare-related housing, among others, to help meet the additional space demands outside hospital settings.
As a result, Fero will provide quick and sustainable alternatives to brick-and-mortar medical infrastructure that will reduce delivery times and support vulnerable populations in Canada and abroad. The project will create 50 skilled jobs in the region.
“We are extremely grateful to the Government of Canada for both investing in Fero and believing in a new Canadian innovator,” said company CEO Sabrina Fiorellino. “The investment is giving Fero the ability to scale its business and operate in the largest modular manufacturing plant in Canada, where it develops cutting-edge modular infrastructure solutions. We look forward to working with the government to help them achieve their ambitious goals of finding fast and innovative solutions to varying infrastructure crises.”
Fero International earned a “Most Innovative Technology of the Year” award at the 2022 National Disaster Relief Expo in Miami, Florida.
