Latest P3 update from IO reveals $30B worth of activity
Infrastructure Ontario’s latest P3 Market Update highlights 25 major infrastructure projects in pre-procurement and active procurement that are worth an estimated combined value of more than $30 billion.
IO released the report on June 27.
The document includes 19 projects in pre-procurement and six projects in active procurement, valued at over $30 billion. It also includes 17 projects in early stages of planning, for which scope, timing and delivery model are still being determined.
“Together with Infrastructure Ontario and our partners in the construction sector, we are delivering on our plan to build the public infrastructure that communities need to grow and prosper,” said Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma. “We have moved three projects out of the procurement stage and into construction, getting more shovels in the ground to build highways, hospitals and other critical assets.”
The latest update includes significant progress in the health care field, including executing a development phase agreement with a contracting partner on the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus Redevelopment Project, and advancing to the construction stage for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health – Phase 1D Redevelopment, and the Trillium Health Partners Broader Redevelopment – Queensway Health Centre project.
Since Infrastructure Ontario’s previous Market Update in December 2023, three projects have achieved substantial completion: the Brampton Courthouse Addition Phase 2 and Toronto Region Bail Centre, the GO Expansion – Davenport Diamond Rail Grade Separation, and the Mount Sinai Hospital Phase 3A Redevelopment Project.
One of the newer projects on the IO list is the Volkswagen Battery Cell Plant – OPP Detachment. The facility will be home to a special tactical unit of the OPP that will provide policing service in the area around St. Thomas and at the forthcoming VW electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant.
“Infrastructure Ontario is pleased to release our June 2024 Market Update that reinforces the relentless progress that we continue to make to create a modern, competitive and connected Ontario,” said Michael Lindsay, President and CEO, Infrastructure Ontario. “Notably, this update includes an expanded toolkit of contracting models that demonstrates how we are adapting to current market realities and increasingly complex projects, while building on our track record of success in delivering Progressive Design Build, Alliance and Progressive P3 projects.”
