Northcrest Developments calls for submissions to reimagine Downsview Airport Lands
A Toronto developer is calling for submissions to reimagine the transformation of the Downsview Airport Lands.
Northcrest Developments is a subsidiary of Public Sector Pension Investments (PSP), a federal Crown Corporation and one of Canada’s largest pension investment managers, has been involved with the development of the 370-acre site since PSP purchased the property in 2018.
The company is now inviting proposals for a what it calls “a high-impact festival, performance, installation, or activation on 600 metres of taxiway.”
“We’re looking for ideas that are imaginative, engaging, visually striking, and barrier-free, which will bring people together and build on our vision of creating a new cultural destination in Toronto,” says Northcrest’s executive director of site activation and programming, Mitchell Marcus.
As a focal point of the site, the runway has historically been a location for major events, including SARSstock: the largest rock concert in Canadian history. Northcrest wants to make the runway a new destination for culture and creativity in Toronto.
With development still decades away, Northcrest has been working with artists, creators, and community groups to create a sense of place through participatory arts and culture, sports and recreation, food and beverage, and community activities.
The company has promises to contribute a total of $100,000 to one or multiple projects. The deadline for submission is June 20.
