Stantec again chosen to rehabilitate Toronto’s bridges
The City of Toronto has chosen Stantec to lead the city's third consecutive bridge program management assignment (BPMA).
Valued at $16 million, the scope of work includes the assessment, preliminary design, detailed design, and contract administration for the rehabilitation of 28 bridges over five years.
The City of Toronto launched its BPMA in 2017, and has awarded the first two contracts of the program to Stantec. Over that time, the company has provided preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration for the rehabilitation or replacement of 63 bridges. Among them are the Don Mills Road bridge over Don Valley Parkway, the Lawrence Avenue Bridge over the Don Valley Parkway, and the Kitchener GO Rail over Bloor Street.
"As Toronto continues to experience urban growth, bridges are an essential part of keeping the city connected," said Scott Leitch, bridge leader for Ontario and Atlantic Canada at Stantec. "By maximizing the life cycle of the many bridges throughout the Toronto area, we are taking an efficient approach to safeguard transportation infrastructure for the traveling public."
For this most recent assignment, Stantec will assess each bridge site to develop rehabilitation solutions. Its team will also provide preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration for every bridge.
Stantec has a longstanding relationship with the City of Toronto. The firm recently led design efforts for the replacement of two bridges crossing Black Creek at Jane Street and Scarlett Road in Toronto and has supported multiple phases and sections of the elevated Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation Project.
