Stantec-Graham JV selected to deliver $152 million Brampton arena
The City of Brantford is moving ahead with construction of a new Sports and Entertainment Centre.
Fresh off signing a long-term lease with the Ontario Hockey League’s Brantford Bulldogs, the city announced plans to build the facility as the team’s permanent home.
The new building will feature 200,000 square feet of newly space, capacity for 5,300 spectators, and will be designed to host OHL hockey games as well as concerts, family shows, community celebrations, trade shows, and other major events.
The $152-million project will be funded through dedicated revenue sources tied to the facility, including a $140 million municipal debenture supported by a reserve fund.
The city expects the new building will create substantial economic benefits during both construction and future operations. Construction activity alone is projected to generate approximately $261 million in economic impact, create 1,260 full time jobs, contribute $90 million dollars in employment income, and produce nearly $25 million dollars in federal and provincial tax revenues.
“This is a defining moment for Brantford," said Mayor Kevin Davis. "Council’s approval of the Sports and Entertainment Centre and the official signing of an up to 40-year lease with the Brantford Bulldogs secures a long-term partnership that will strengthen our community and fuel our downtown’s renewal. This project is a generational investment, and the Bulldogs’ commitment affirms Brantford as their permanent home. Importantly, we’re bringing this vision to life with a practical and sustainable funding model.”
The city selected Stantec and Graham Construction in joint venture to provide progressive design-build services for the project. The firm has partnered with Two Row Architect and Populous. Two Row Architect will incorporate indigenous culture and traditional design elements, while Populous’ expertise span accessible, adaptable, and sustainable sports and entertainment event spaces.
Construction is expected to begin in early in the new year, with completion targeted for early 2028.
