Infrastructure Ontario issues RFP for Stevenson Memorial Hospital redevelopment project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Stevenson Memorial Hospital have invited three companies to respond to a request for proposals (RFP) to deliver the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Phase 1 Redevelopment Project in Alliston.
The three companies were prequalified based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began last August. The companies are: EllisDon Corporation, Ledcor Construction Limited and Pomerleau Inc.
The companies will prepare proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Once submissions are received, Infrastructure Ontario and Stevenson Memorial Hospital will evaluate the proposals, select a preferred company and then negotiate a final contract. The successful company is expected to be announced in early 2026.
The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project is being undertaken to redevelop, revitalize, and expand the hospital. At approximately 146,000 square feet, the hospital extension will include a replacement and expansion of the existing hospital’s acute care areas and associated support functions.
Originally built in 1964, the hospital was designed to support 7,000 emergency department visits per year. Today, it counts nearly 35,000 visits annually.
The new expansion will wrap around the hospital’s current facility, tripling the size of the hospital and revitalizing many clinical areas.
Inpatient bed capacity will increase by 20 percent. The emergency department will triple in size and have its separate entrance with enclosed ambulance bays. Laboratory space will be enhanced, including surgical suites, inpatient rooms, diagnostic imaging, birthing suites and more.
The design of the new facility will make significant use of natural light and modern features. In addition to clinical upgrades, the hospital grounds will feature new gardens, green spaces, and additional parking.
An early works project is underway to prepare the site for construction.
