Province opens new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital
The Ontario government has announced the grand opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby.
Supported by a provincial investment of nearly $250 million, Hamilton Health Sciences’ new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is nearly 80 percent larger than the facility it is replacing. It is the first new hospital in Ontario to include all single-patient rooms.
The new building will offer both inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, complex and palliative care and surgical services in new, more modern facilities, so the hospital can better serve the needs of people and families in West Niagara for years to come.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people can connect to convenient care in their community,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “We are excited to celebrate the opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, building vital capacity for Niagara Region and helping more families access the right care, in the right place, for generations to come.”
The contract to build the facility was issued to a team led by EllisDon Corporation in April 2022, with a total contract value of $224 million. The project reached substantial completion in September of this year.
The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital includes expanded patient capacity of 55 beds and six birthing suites, a new, modern emergency department, day surgical services, including three operating rooms, and fully renovated and enhanced advanced diagnostic imaging suites.
The hospital has been caring for West Niagara residents for over 70 years. The project to renovate the facility is part of the government’s plan to invest nearly $60 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next 10 years.
In the Hamilton region, the government is also getting shovels in the ground for hospital projects including the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton psychiatric emergency service redevelopment, Juravinski Hospital’s redevelopment and Hamilton General Hospital’s emergency department expansion.
