Substantial completion reached for West Lincoln Memorial Hospital redevelopment project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) have announced that the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) Redevelopment project has achieved substantial completion.
Over the next few months, HHS will begin a transition period, which includes transitioning operations to the new facility. Doors will open to patients in late fall 2025.
This redevelopment project involved the construction of a new, larger hospital to serve the West Niagara community and features acute inpatient beds, a 24-hour emergency department, maternal and newborn services, day surgical services including endoscopy and minor procedures, increased outpatient (ambulatory) care space to expand availability of consultation services closer to home, and advanced diagnostics including X-ray, mammography, echocardiography and ultrasound, and CT scanner.
Construction work started on the project in May 2022 after IO and HHS awarded a contract worth $224 million to EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare to design, build and finance the facility.
As a site of HHS, WLMH also serves as a point of access to one of the largest health systems in Canada for patients requiring more specialized care.
