Aecon, Pomerleau and Stantec selected to deliver long-range radar system project
Defence Construction Canada has selected a consortium of Pomerleau and Aecon to deliver the Over-the-Horizon Radar (A-OTHR) Program Stage 1 project in Ontario.
Under a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, Defence Construction Canada will act as the project owner, while the construction consortium, which also includes Stantec, will be responsible for project delivery.
A validation phase will start in the first quarter of this year. A design-development phase will follow, and construction after that.
The Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Program is part of a key NORAD modernization initiative to renew Canada’s North Warning System. The program will establish a northward-aimed radar system with long-range surveillance of the northern approaches to major population centres in North America.
“The Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Program is a critical undertaking and Aecon is primed to play a central role in delivering this essential defence infrastructure project alongside Defence Construction Canada and our partners,” said Aecon Group President and CEO Jean-Louis Servranckx.
The consortium's mandate includes supporting the design and delivery of critical site infrastructure for this next generation radar system.
The project represents a major milestone in advancing Canada's surveillance capabilities and will be supported by environmental assessments and community engagement sessions.
