Metrolinx has announced that construction is underway on the East Harbour Transit Hub’s main station building.

Located east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue, the East Harbour Transit Hub will connect to the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines, as well as the Ontario Line subway.

The newest addition to Toronto’s transit network is set to become the city’s second-busiest station, reducing crowding at Union Station by up 14,000 people during peak travel times.

Major construction on the East Harbour Transit Hub began last year, and crews have since completed excavation and drilling work. Work is now underway on the station’s foundations, with concrete being poured for the main station building.

Work is also underway to widen the Eastern Avenue bridge to accommodate six tracks.

The station is expected to serve about 100,000 daily riders, with trains arriving as frequently as every five minutes during rush hour.

The East Harbour Transit Hub will be integrated into a 38-acre transit-oriented community that will bring new residential and commercial space to the area. 

The East Harbour Transit Hub, part of the GO Expansion program, is a joint initiative of the Government of Canada, Province of Ontario, City of Toronto and Metrolinx.v
