The governor’s comments echoed the central message of a speech senior deputy governor Carolyn Rogers gave in March, where she warned addressing low productivity has become a national emergency.

It plans to work with other groups such as Toronto Metropolitan University to explore solutions to help modernize the delivery of public infrastructure.

Of the funding, $9 million is being allocated to the construction of five training centres across the province.

The council says the updated standard reflects evolving market needs and takes advantage of new technologies and processes to accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions. 

Once complete, the extension will bring 37,500 more people within walking distance of transit and attract 70,000 daily boardings by 2041.
