A team of students from the college’s Forest Technician – Conservation Program will plant more than 2,000 seedlings on a wind berm at Algoma’s Sault Ste. Marie campus.

The first phase is expected to add roughly 10,000 tonnes per year of contained nickel and 13,000 tonnes per year of copper.

The $1.8-billion project will see the steel company transition the Hamilton site to technology that will reduce its carbon footprint and remove coal from the ironmaking process.

The building comprises more than 500,000 square feet of industrial warehouse space and office, meeting and training space, and cost about $80 million to build.

Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health will evaluate proposals from EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare and Niagara Care Partners with a view to selecting a preferred proponent early next year.
