The start of work at the third of four reactors at the station means that the 10-year, $12.8-billion project has officially passed its halfway mark. The entire project will extend the life of the station by 30 years.

The Peter Gilgan Foundation has donated $105 million to help fund construction of Trillium Health Partners’ Mississauga hospital building, and the expansion and renovation of the Queensway Health Centre. The donation is the largest ever given to a Canadian hospital.

About 300,000 businesses across the province will be eligible to share in the windfall, and will receive a one-time rebate of approximately 30 percent of their annual premium payments.

The worker was critically injured while loading rail cars with scrap metal.

The $1.8-billion project will replace coal-fed coke ovens and blast furnaces with low-emission technology.
