Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the $14.9−billion announcement on Wednesday as he prepared for a virtual meeting with mayors from Canada’s largest cities, many of them struggling to make ends meet due to the COVID−19 pandemic.

The company was found to have failed to properly brace a structure so that it could not fail or collapse. The incident saw a steel structure assembly collapse, and a worker injured.

Building permit values reached just $25.1 million for the month. That’s down from the $45.3 million recorded in December 2020 and the $37.8 million recorded in January 2020.

A funding boost of $34.5 million from the federal government should help the soon-to-be-constructed Ottawa Public Library–Library and Archives Canada joint facility reach net-zero carbon.

The province called on Ottawa to provide the funding on Tuesday, over a year after it cancelled the project because its costs had escalated to $5.5 billion.
