The Ontario government announced on May 25 that it has awarded a contract worth more than $757 million to a P3 team led by Strabag to design, build and finance the project to build the 7.8-kilometre Scarborough subway extension.

Most of the funding is being directed to the Township of King, where a new recreation centre will be built. Further funding will support construction and renovation work at the La Ronde cultural centre in Timmins and the George Bell Arena in Toronto.

Thanks to more than $4 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments, more than 800 homes and businesses in Wellington and Middlesex counties have access to broadband internet service.

A direct rail connection between Union Station in Toronto and parts as far north as Cochrane or Timmins could become reality as the Ontario government revealed its initial business case to restore the service.

Three out of four firms surveyed for the report said their digital maturity was ‘fairly low’ relative to their competitors, and nearly three in five said they need to adapt their digital strategies to keep up.
