Lake Simcoe is the largest inland lake in southern Ontario outside of the Great Lakes. Its watershed is home to more than 435,000 people, but the lake collects about six tonnes of phosphorous annually from nearby Holland Marsh.

The monument, which will be located near the Supreme Court of Canada building in Ottawa, will commemorate the historic discrimination against LGBTQ2+ people in Canada between the 1950s and 1990s.

The funding will be used to renovate or build 74 facilities across the province. The government’s new accelerated delivery program for long-term care homes has already funded the construction of 49 new facilities.

The building will serve as a national clean energy hub, where researchers from the public, private and academic sectors will collaborate on projects to develop clean technologies and advanced materials.
