The province and the federal government have teamed up to provide $4 billion—including $2 billion for public transit—in funding supports for local governments.

With funding in place, York University is set to expand its facilities by building a $275-million facility in Markham. Construction starts this week.

The Elgin Park redevelopment project will host four two-storey buildings with a total of 40 units;  28 will be affordable, rent-geared-to-income housing.

The parent company of retailers Sobey’s, Safeway, Farm Boy and Fresh Co plans to spend $700 million annually over the next three years to build and renovate stores, and increase its e-commerce business.

An investment of nearly $12 million will go to support seven key infrastructure projects in rural and First Nation communities in the province’s southwest.
