The project involves adding almost 140 kilometres of new pipe by constructing 11 looping segments parallel to the existing line.

The plan builds on the site's 192-acre footprint and existing infrastructure to create flexible spaces to support everyday use.

The province calls the line “a critical piece of infrastructure” that will enable major new investments across the North.

The move is part of a government push for an expansion of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to include jets.

Facility upgrades will help train an additional 150 workers over the next five years.
